At 1:30 am on Sunday, Sept. 28, 2003, the OFD was dispatched to a motor vehicle accident with entrapment on Rt. 61 near the 3 C's Restaurant. Tragically, we would arrive on scene to learn that this accident had claimed the life of one of our own, OFD Firefighter Joseph E. Zitkus. Joe, a longtime member and veteran firefighter was pronounced dead at the scene. He will be greatly missed by his fellow brothers and sisters of the Orwigsburg Fire Department.
